ABOUT HRDI

Target Groups and Beneficiaries

Even though international, regional, community and domestic human rights standards have been designed to protect the weak, poor and vulnerable from abuses of power, in practice it is this group who are subjected to some of the most cruel forms of abuse. PLHIV are often the weakest and the most vulnerable of this group and consequently sustain the deepest abuses. Consequently, HRDI’s primary target group is in fact this category of people.

As a regional organisation, it is difficult for HRDI to reach this group without working closely with others. In order to overcome this obstacle, HRDI works with university law clinics, non-governmental organisations and community based organisations that already work with PLHIV or who are willing to start working with PLHIV.

Law students, lawyers and paralegals from within the above institutions are a specific group with whom HRDI works to ensure that there is greater access to justice for the weak, poor and vulnerable and specifically those who face discrimination and stigmatisation due to HIV/AIDS.
